Helsinkiläinen Linda Liukas on tehnyt jotain aivan mielettömän upeaa. Lastenkirjan koodaamisesta! Linda on Rails Girls -nettiyhteisön perustaja, joten kirjan takana on ihan oikeaa osaamista. Rails Girls järjestää koodauskoulutusta tytöille ja naisille, vapaaehtoisten kouluttajien avulla. Työpajoja on järjestetty ympäri maailmaa. Itsekin työurani koodarina aloittaneena voin vain sanoa tähän, että VAU!
DAY 9: THE LANGUAGE THAT MAKES COMPUTERS TALK
Computers talk to one another with a shared language, just like when people use english. With a shared language different types of computers on different corners of the world can understand each other. There are lots of different protocols (which is a fancy word for language) the computers use, but one of the most popular ones is HTTP. (You might have heard of TCP/IP, IRC, FTP or SMPT too).
When you type in a website address like http://helloruby.com the HTTP:// tells the computer how to transfer the information between you and the website.
Whenever you type something into your browser, click on a link, or submit a form, your browser creates a HTTP request.
When everything goes well, HTTP returns a 200. Can you guess what happens with a 404 or 500? 404 happens when request couldn’t find what you were looking for. 500 is a generic error message. *
There are even fun ones like 418 which means “I’m a teapot” (an april foold joke!).
All together there’s over 80 different kinds of responses for HTTP to choose from. Busy guys.
Day 21: Cookies
Some of Ruby’s cookies have special memories baked into them. When she eats them she remembers places she visited, people she saw, things she bought. The memories go back as far as months and in some cases even years. The magic is other people have access to these memories as well when eating the cookies. It’s almost like a part of Ruby’s personality is stored all around the world.
Most of the times it’s wonderful – people greet her on the streets, remember her favourite colour and breakfast. Sometimes Ruby is a little concerned of all the information about her in the cookies. Luckily they expire.
